The small mobile have has appeared in varying numbers throughout recorded
history. Early encounters with the Zentraedi suggested that most of the Invid fleet was made up
of these vessels. In the invasion of Earth, the small hive has been far less numerous, appearing
in numbers only slightly higher than the medium hives. For the most part, it is believed the small
hives act as both scouts and escorts for their larger brethren, providing extra firepower and
mecha into the battle. Its plasma reserves are relatively low, making it especially vulnerable in
long engagements. During the occupation, the small hives seemed to facilitate one of two roles.
First they were deployed to more remote areas where the presence of larger hives could not be
justified, this included areas in which the Flower of Life did not grow very well and the concern
was more the enforcing of Invid authority. On that same note, small hives were also deployed to
provide extra support in areas of increased human resistance.
