Developed to provide more mobility to tactical missile launchers,
especially fixed defenses, the Phalanx proved to be one of the best Destroids used
during the First Robotech War. Using many of the same components of both the Tomahawk
and Defender to reduce costs, the Phalanx housed two large missile drums instead of
arms. Each drum had a large supply of long-range Derringer missiles. The missiles
are both potent and accurate. The Phalanx was invaluable in defending the SDF-1
during its long campaign, shooting down hundreds of enemy battlepods and causing
significant damage to enemy ships, including Dolza's command fortress during the
holocaust. In post-war Earth the Phalanx was less valuable, as the number of flyable
enemy mecha was significantly reduced and hostile Zentraedi resorted mainly to
ground combat. The Phalanx remained in service until the first generation of destroids
were all decomissioned and removed from service in 2020
