The Spartan was a close-combat destroid designed to supplement the other ground
mecha and to provide a suitable candidate for urban policing or combat. Relatively weakly armed,
the center torso mounts a multi-purpose gun cluster equipped primarily with anti-personal weapons.
It's main anti-mecha armament was a RoV-22 laser as well as two banks of short-ranged Rapier
missiles. The main 'punch' of the Spartan's armament is in fact its large fists, which can be used
in hand to hand combat to devastated enemy mecha. During the Zentraedi Campaign the Spartan was used
to protect other Destroids from close assault on the SDF-1, and in the post war era it helped to
control malcontent full-sized Zentraedi. During the reconstruction it also aided in building projects
across the devastated planet, until its decomissioning in 2020. A handful of Spartans, along with other
older Destroids remained in service with local militias well into the 2020s.
