Given the high rate of casualties and the proportionally dwindling
number of pilots, in 2010 the SDF-1 sought new ways to make their fighters more effective.
Lacking the time to develop entirely new craft, they instead concentrate on ways to
upgrade their existing Valkyries. Following the success of the Armoured Battloid, the
Super Valkyrie upgrade involved the attaching of additional engines and missile pods
which would function no matter what form the Veritech took. The additional thrust
gave it performance abilities above and beyond the Zentraedi Gnerl, and the multitude
of missiles allowed it to engage multiple targets for an extended period of time.
Unlike the Armoured Valkyrie, the attachments of the highly praised Super variant were
almost never jettisoned unless the pilot was forced to enter the Earth's atmosphere,
where the bulky additions to the Valkyrie gave it the aerodynamics of a brick.
